Who doesn’t love a week off? I’ve always used my February break as a time to rest up before the start of a very busy season of the school year… March is a long month for teachers, and it’s when middle school ELA teachers are forced to turn a good deal of attention to the state tests. March is also the month spring sports begin… though I’ve no idea what’s happening with that this year… I’ve always saved my traveling for the summer, so I wasn’t feeling that wistful sadness that others— who were unable to go on their vacations— were.
I was able to simply enjoy.
Sunday
I spent my Valentine’s Day falling in love with my new David Levithan book, and I felt positively gleeful at the prospect of adding it to my invisible bookshelf collection of his works.
Monday
Candlelit dinners for one were a thing this week, too. They were nice. Calming.
Tuesday
I did actually get out this week, though. More so than I have in months. And I got a double dose of Nick and Ashley! I had an appointment at Climb Chiropractic Sports Health, which, of course, means I got to chat with them (They took this selfie for me much later because I forgot to snap a pic when I was there), and then I got to chat with them a little on Saturday when I worked out in their garage.
Wednesday
I also took a walk with Chris. It was about 12 degrees out, so I didn’t think we’d go far, but we were bundled up, and the sun was warmer than expected. Plus, with masks on, we stayed much toastier for much longer. It was quite the walk, and the fresh air did me good.
And I “attended” an open mic event on Wednesday. It was something Jessica put together for her father on Zoom, to lift his spirits. It was mostly Jessica’s family, but it was sweet. I played one verse and the chorus of Yesterday on the piano for them, but my extreme stage fright made my hands shake and my fingers fumble over the keys. Jess still appreciated it, though.
Thursday
Otherwise, like most weeks for the past year, I just tried to maintain healthy habits and enjoy my own company. I worked out at home almost every day (and, like I said, made use of Nashley’s garage on Saturday), did yoga a few times, attempted to cook healthy meals, and continued to suck at mediation.
Friday
I kept up my gratitude log in my bullet journal, too, and felt particularly thankful for Dr. Erion this week (For an explanation of who he is, see: 1/20/2020). There’s a giddiness you feel only when you know you’re fully accepted by the person you most respect in this world… and now I can add Elizabeth McCord to the long list of fictional characters Dr. Erion represents in my life.
Saturday
If there’s one thing this year has taught me, it’s to appreciate connection.
