I woke up and said to myself: Thank GOD it’s Saturday.
It was Tuesday.
How’d your week go?
Sunday
I’m not sure what it was that made this week so exhausting. Maybe it was the amount of meals I substituted frosting for, or the dreams that felt like full days in themselves, but whatever the reason, I was spent from the get-go. I never had any real energy to do anything.
My neighbor’s cat Tyson managed to get some treats out of me, though. Usually I just put food out for the strays and Tyson steals from the bowl, but I decided to bust out the bags of treats I have left from the box I ordered near the end of Sam’s days. After I gave him a few, Tyson begged for more. I relented. Then he begged for more. I relented.
Then I found puke on my porch the next morning.
Don’t worry, a stray had gobbled it up by the time I came home from work.
Monday
I tried to do yoga. Ashley said, “Let’s start in a seated position.” I slumped forward on the coffee table and thought: Does this count?
Halfway through, I gave up and laid in savasana with tears leaking onto my mat.
Tuesday
Amanda tried to make me feel better on Tuesday by playing with my hair and introducing me to a show that I spent a lot of my free time binging this week.
Wednesday
I did almost get the calico stray to let me pet her. That can count as a win, right?
Thursday
Thursday felt like Monday. Idk what the hell is going on anymore…
I had another difficult conversation with my principal about health concerns my neurologist has. That was fun. She was super supportive, but I don’t know what I want to do about everything. I should have taken some time to really think things over this week, but mostly— like I said— I binge-watched a show.
Friday
Friday held moments of levity and fun with the students, though. We have very sweet kids. They’re not the hardest workers and they have some concerning weakness, but they’re pretty awesome people and that ain’t nothing.
However, they love to use cause or cuz or bc in their reading responses, and I just can’t even. Which I told them. I seriously would have settled for ’cause, since that would mean they’d retained the discussion we had about different uses of apostrophes, but alas. I’ll live to fight that battle another day. I ended up putting a big note on the whiteboard and as I checked their work, I just pointed. I told them that’s how I’m teaching from now on— just throwing a note on the board and pointing whenever they ask questions, since they don’t listen when I talk to them anyway.
This was said with love.
Saturday
Saturday morning was full, but I did a whole lot of nothing the rest of the day. I hope that helps me feel rejuvenated for the new week.
