2021 May – Week 20

May is proving to be a pretty full month. I get the sense that people are itching to get back out into the world. I am not. Well, that’s not entirely true… After all, I’m planning a cross-country road trip with my dad. But I’m also perfectly content to sit home most days or go for leisurely walks.

The world would like me to participate in it, though.

On Sunday, I ventured up to Newport to meet with Ashley and the rest of her bridal party. I got a first look at where the ceremony will be held, too. It’s going to be a backyard wedding, and since her parents live on the West Canada Creek, it’ll be pretty picturesque. It may not look like much in this picture, but once the ground is filled in and the landscaping is cleaned up, it’s going to be beautiful.

Oh, hey, sidetone: I got bangs like a week or so ago.

I like being friends with the pigeons and squirrels. I hope the chipmunks come back soon. I tried to enjoy the sun and the breeze and the sounds of Utica on Tuesday while I shelled some peanuts for my companions. Sammy used to watch me from the porch as I did this, staring daggers and wondering why I needed any friends other than him. I miss his judgement.

Speaking of judgement… sometimes sassy-pants Teacher Tiffany is super judgy about grammar. I dig my students, I really do. They’re kind of adorable. And I know language is about expression, but also, like, use a goddamn period and stop calling me Mrs.

Clear skies meant no excuses. I had to get outside and exercise… and then lie in the grass dying.

My mom’s wisterias have bloomed in the sudden wave of high eighties weather. Her sense of pride is apparent when she talks of them, and I can see why.

To celebrate Amanda’s recent engagement, Thuy held a potluck fire. We laughed, we played games, we ate food. There are few things that are more enjoyable than sitting around a fire with good people.
