2021 July – Week 29

Tripsicle headed back east. It wasn’t as fun as the first leg of the trip, but it was nice to be back on the road with my dad.

Sunday

We altered our plans a little after spending an extra night on the west coast, and instead of stopping in Boise, Idaho, we went a little further to Twin Falls. We “car camped” again in the parking lot of a Holiday Inn, then hit Shoshone Park in the morning. Apparently this is where Evel Knievel attempted one of his canyon jumps. Who knew.

Monday

We went from Twin Falls through Lincoln and onto Scottsbluff— home to a scene that gives me an instant sense of nostalgia. I grew up hearing about how Oreos were invented by a wagon train’s chef (#DadFact = LIES) and getting repeated notifications that someone in my wagon died of dysentery. It was just a brief respite from the road before we drove to Kansas City, but it put big smiles on my face.

Tuesday

7/20/2021

Tuesday was spent in St. Louis, going up the arch, walking through City Museum, visiting the whispering arch in Union Station, and having a drink at Venice Cafe. Sorry, Portland, but of all the places we visited, St. Louis came in first in the Totally Weird category.

Wednesday

7/21/2021

On Wednesday, we migrated home and officially became New Yorkers again.

Thursday

7/24/2021

My souvenirs bring me joy, even though the National Park Service didn’t want to sell me a damn sweatshirt.

Friday

7/23/2021

Harsh step back into reality on Friday when I had to go to Albany for an infusion. Luckily I have Fishes in my life.

Saturday

7/24/2021

I picked up some postcards along the way to send off to Dr. Erion, but of course didn’t send them until I got home.
