I jammed a lot into this week, so let’s get right to it.
Sunday
I attended a UCFC game with Liv and the Myatts, and was pleasantly surprised to see Issak out on the pitch!
Monday
Since Ryan occupied the guest room, when Taranne’s military plans changed at the last minute, I had a bed buddy.
Tuesday
Ryan made a good guest. He was respectful of my space and generally good company. Still… I was happy when my house belonged solely to me again.
Wednesday
Unfortunately a large part of Wednesday evening was spent in a ditch. Aung asked me to pick him up from Morrisville, since he was done with his finals, but I never made it to him. I was forced to turn around when I got stuck going up a hill.
Things went downhill from there. Literally.
It was probably the most slow-motion descent into a ditch ever. I’d been going maybe 15 MPH when I came to a stop sign I simply couldn’t stop at. I flashed my lights and laid on my horn to let the car that could potentially broadside me know that I was sliding straight across route 46. Luckily, they were paying attention. They stopped and watched and into the ditch I went.
It took an hour and fifteen minutes just to get a cop car, during which time about 30 good samaritans pulled over to check on me. I thanked each and every one of them, but that forced me to roll down my window and let the cold air in… Then there was the child of the corn who appeared out of nowhere, banged on my window, and asked if I wanted him to wait in my car with me. NO thanks, bro. I’m good.
Thursday
Robin Azzarito decided my porch needed a gnome decoration, and I guess it really did.
Friday
Meanwhile, Ryan needed to stay at my house again. I left the key under the mat and told him to enjoy RJ (Rainy Jane is the name of my house), then I drove to the city.
Did I end up at a gay piano bar severely underdressed? Perhaps.
Saturday
When Jason, a guy I met kayaking off the coast of Washington over the summer, messaged me to say he was going on an Archiventure in the city, I immediately said I was down. Who wouldn’t be?
We hit all sorts of cool spots: Herzog buildings, the new bean sculpture, the windowless skyscraper, and The Fearless Girl, to name a few. We looked for the shrapnel from the first domestic terrorist attack, supposedly embedded in the limestone across the street from 1 Wall Street. We saw the light show at Rockefeller Center, and the Macy’s window displays.
When all was said and done, we walked eleven miles before heading to Washington Heights for a Christmas party at one of his friend’s places.
It was an adventure full of whimsy, and those are the best kind.
